Hello, everyone! I decided to skip posting last week, as I wasn’t feeling it and I didn’t want to rush the Pokémon Go guide and have it be utter crap. I will post a normal post on Sunday, but for now, enjoy this smaller post about a fence at Disney’s Discovery Island.
If you don’t know, Discovery Island is the second abandoned park at the Walt Disney World resort. Here is a good video about it by BrightSunFilms: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=En6GyaY484k
I will write a post about the island at a later date, but I want to talk about something strange on the island first. So, it all started on August 26th, 2016. I was at Walt Disney World, and I chose to go see the abandoned parks on this day. While my main focus was River Country, as that one is easy to see, I also got to see a part of Discovery Island (The entrance and the maintenance dock). I took a few pictures of them, and didn’t pay much attention, as I was trying to find other abandoned buildings on the island, to take more interesting pictures. Here are these pictures:
The boat goes right by the entrance, so it’s pretty easy to see it, as long as you know where to look and what you’re looking for. Honestly, I don’t know why the boat does this. It’s like they want you to see the entrance to the island. Anyway, I only passed by the island once and these are the only pictures I took. At the time, little did I know that the pictures I took were way more interesting than I thought. I studied these pictures myself and noticed nothing interesting about them. Until September 14th, 2016, that is. The YouTuber BrightSunFilms (BSF) is working on the video I linked above, and tweets asking for media related to the island. I DM him two pictures of the island, as they were recent and I thought he might be able to use them, as bad as they were. He is the one who noticed the interesting part of my picture: a fence. Before, the Discovery Island fence looked like this:
Now, it looks like this:
Disney put a fence up at the entrance to the island.
BSF visited WDW in April, and he said there wasn’t a fence there at the time, meaning it was put up recently.
This is why it’s weird. You might say, “They put it up to prevent trespassers”, but why would Disney wait 16-17 years to put a fence up on the island? BSF theorized that they may be doing construction on the island, but since 99.99% of people don’t know about Discovery Island, we don’t know. It would be really cool if they were silently building something, testing the ground, or even dismantling the park, and that I took the first picture of their secrets. Honestly, I don’t know why the fence was put up. It actually gives way the location of the entrance more than it hides it, and if they really cared about trespassers, why have a huge service dock within full view of boats and Fort Wilderensss? Disney has done something incredibly weird here, and no one knows what’s going on, as the island is hidden from the public eye way more than River Country. That’s the best part: no one knows. It may be to prevent trespassers, but wouldn’t Disney security constantly monitoring the area be enough? We just don’t know why.
